Naturretungsveste
(A Life Vest for Nature)
The concept won 3rd place in the Meshup Upcycling Design Competition Berlin in 2020.Â
Competition challenge
To create a product out of the advertising banner displaying plants and wildlife, which was used to cover the Willmersdorfer Arkaden building in Berlin during construction work. Each participant received 2 square meters of banner material.
Insight
My concept Naturretungsweste, was created in response to the littering we so often see as a trace of human presence in some of the most beautiful natural places. Plastic bottles are one of the most common types of trash discarded in forests, on the side of the roads, or on lakes. Â
Idea
How can we make use of all the trash? By taking advantage of the floating properties and "lightweightness" of empty plastic bottles, I created a product concept that makes them "disappear" faster. 7 plastic bottles at a time can go inside the Naturretungsweste. It can be a savior for nature, which gets cleaned from plastic, and a lifesaver for the ones who don't know how to swim.
As part of the prize, the physical prototype was exhibited in the Willmersdorfer Arkaden Mall in Berlin and the project idea was displayed for 2 weeks on advertising banners in key locations around Berlin.
